A Season of Pressing
Recently, I went through a season that was rough and I felt like I was being pressed on every side. Have you ever been through a season where it feels like that? We’ve been contending for the breakthrough. This is our year right? But all too often the enemy tries to wear our faith down. It is a season right now of pressing. I think we all could agree that when we’re in those seasons, we can’t wait for the ending to be near. We look forward to the finish of the hardship. In my weakness, I met with God to discuss my current situation. I prayed, “God, what are You doing right now?” And He answered.
I suddenly saw that I was before a large circular press. As I drew near it, I could see it was in fact an olive press. Olives were inside the large stone contraption, and I watched that as they were being squished, oil was being separated from the rest of their contents. I just kept watching the large stone pressing and squishing those olives over and over. I didn’t like that stone! The process seemed quite barbaric to me. Then as I stared at them being squeezed, I heard His voice.
“I Am For You, Not Against You”
“I’m pressing you right now. I’m turning up the heat. What will be extracted out of you during this season? What will be the sound you release? Will you still exhibit My joy, love, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness and self-control? Will you still trust Me, and say that I am good?
“I love you and I am here, but you must know it even when you can’t feel Me. I am not a distant God. I will take care of you, but you must do your part. Praise Me. Press through the pain and worship, and watch what I’ll do through this. I am for you, not against you. The pressing is a refinement of your character. You will see what’s in your heart during this season, and you will see how much you truly need Me. Come, let’s do this together.”
A Season of Growth and Stretching
All too often, when I am facing something hard in life, I just think about getting through it. It’s about the product right, not the process? Wrong. Process isn’t a word a lot of us like, nor is “refinement.” God loves me just as I am in my broken state, but He sees the potential. The process doesn’t scare Him, otherwise He would have long ago turned away from mankind.
We’re being pressed right now. Out of the refinement season, will rise the sweetest perfume and fragrance in your life. You will grow beyond what you thought you could, but you will be stretched. So will you choose to worship, and then worship again today? I am convinced that sacrificial worship releases the sweetest aroma to the King, and it breaks the powers and weaponry of darkness. He’s right there beside you in the pressing season and He’s proud of you, beloved.
“But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns of praise to God, and the prisoners were listening to them; and suddenly there came a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison house were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were unfastened.” Acts 16:25-26
