“Your PURPOSE answers the WHAT of your existence – Your GIFTS describe HOW you do it!”
In all the universe there is nobody like you. Destiny was woven into your existence at conception and formed in you even as a child. The word destiny is related to the word destination, the end of a journey. There is an innate sense in our hearts that our lives should arrive at a place where our deepest dreams and desires find fulfillment. This restless search for completion is part of our design. In fact, this yearning is one of the primary proofs that we have a design. Each and every one of us has been given a unique destiny design by our Creator, and as such we each have a purpose that is our unique privilege to fulfill in this life and the life to come. Our unique destinies are all expressions of the nature and purposes of God Himself since we were both created and redeemed to be His sons and daughters. Romans 8:28-30 contains a clear insight concerning our destiny:
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate [to be] conformed to the image of his Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.”
The word “predestinate” in these verses is the Greek word “proorizo” (a composite of pro, meaning before, and “horizo,” meaning to define, to determine, to mark out the limits or boundaries of a place or thing). “Horizo” is the root of our word horizon.
The fact that we have been predestined “to be conformed to the image of His Son” means that our whole journey in life is about reaching this one point in the distance— becoming like Jesus. As we press on let us remember that our destiny as the children of God is more than a matter of what we do in our journey. It is a matter of who God says we already are, before we do anything or go anywhere. We start our journey best when we start it grounded in our heavenly identity. We are sons and daughters of the living God. Destiny isn’t just in the future it is in the now. As we seek Gods will and do what He shows us we are fulfilling our destiny in this moment. As those moments string together we can be certain that we are living in the plan heaven established for us before we were born.
